We found the bees massing across the stucco right where the tile roof meets the wall — the early stage of a colony working its way into the roof void (you can see the spread in the photo). Caught early, before they'd built much comb, this was a manageable 3-out-of-5 job: we removed the 2,000–5,000 bees alive, caught the queen so the swarm couldn't regroup, and made sure the entry point into the roof was closed off behind us.

- Walk your roofline each spring and seal gaps around fascia, vents, and eaves — any opening wider than about a pencil is a potential entrance.
- Screen attic and roof vents with 1/8-inch hardware cloth; standard vent louvers are easy for scout bees to slip through.
- If you see steady bee traffic in and out of one spot on the roof, call early — a new swarm is far cheaper and simpler to remove than an established in-structure hive.
